Partybike!

OK, here's a bike (or bike-like thing?) I'd never seen until my trip to NY, where I saw one in action. Cruised on by somewhere near Times Square.

The 7-person Partybike looks like what you'd get if you crossbred 7 bikes with, um ... a tractor or something? Pretty rad, and seems like it'd be a ton of fun. One person steers, all seven people pedal. I wonder what the top speed is?

Can you imagine getting that thing going down a 10% grade? I bet it would go way faster then you'd want it to :-)

I'd be more curious as to how'd it work going UP 10% grade.

By the way equipoise, I see you finally made a "neat" picture to post of yourself. Good job.

I can't find the pic now, but I've seen a 10-12 person partybike posted on bikeForums. People sit on both sides of a wooden bar and pedal and drink. It's even got a roof. One person at the end of the bar faces forward and is basically the 'designated driver.' I guess that they're pretty popular in Amsterdam...

Jojo - you really should be nicer to your big brother. I've been spending all my time recently making preparations for your visit. That's why I haven't been posting. I want every thing to be *perfect*.

If it's human-powered - more power to you! Except for, what's the deal with the people pedalling backwards? That's got to feel weird.

There's a guy in Minneapolis with one of these; he's currently offering free test rides before Critical Mass and at other events, and is trying to work out licensing issues with the city. His name is Paul Selcke. He calls it a conference bike. His website is http://www.cycleseven.com/weblog.html and he posts about it on the bicycle lane Yahoo group as well.
