Grandma's Marathon 2005 (short)

Finishing Time: 3:35:49

Better than expected, not as good as I hoped. But I'm satisfied. Thanks to this race I'm now the proud owner of this sucka:
Sometime during the race I picked up this giant bloodblister. It engulfs that entire toenail and front of the toe, so it's only a matter of time until I lose the nail.

More details to come later.

Yikes! That baby must of been smarting at the end of the race. I guess you won't be kicking any footballs for a day or too. Good job on the race.

So, um, will it grow back?

You know, I didn't realize I had the bloodblister until well after the race was over - funny how that works.

I popped it last night, and was surprised at the copious amounts of bloody fluid that shot out - my garbage can looks like a murder scene or something.

Now that it's popped, it doesn't really hurt at all. And I've taped the toenail down so maybe, just maybe, it won't fall off.

If it does drop off, it'll grow back, but it seems they're never quite the same when they do - the last time I lost a toenail, it grew back looking like a crinkle-cut potato chip.

Oh, dude - you popped it? Ouch. Where's that picture?

I've got a couple messed-up nails I was hoping I could fix by running a half-marathon and getting shiny new ones. Alas, sounds like it's no go.

I did that to my big toe kicking a skid of paper awhile ago (maybe 8 months?). Busted the tonail off back at the bed. Taping helped it stay togther, but several months later the dead part finally fell off, with some funky wavy nail underneath it. That part is almost gone now, though. I think the extra thickness of it being a big toe instead of a little toe might have been why it now mostly looks like a regular nail rather than a crinkle-cut potato chip. That's what it looked like under the part that fell off...

I did really notice that one when it happened, though. Maybe it was just that the rest of your feet were hurting so much from the running before that you didn't notice the toe was hurting the most?

I'm just glad you got a picture of it for posterity. Back in college I fell down a flight of stairs at a kegger, and got this enormous black bruise on my right asscheek. I tell people about it now, but it's hard to describe adequately with just words. I wish like hell I had a picture.

Nasty owie, Thrill.

I did the same at church camp one year, dropped a bongo drum on it. Heard the staff say something about "hospital and lance", freaked and put a needle to it in the ladies room. Shot across 4 sinks! I avoided the docs again!

It grew back fine. Good luck on yours!

Toe seems to doing pretty well, and it looks like I may not lose the nail after all, since it seems to have reseated itself. Thanks for your concern, everyone!
